Born in 1914 in Baku, Russia/Azerbaijan, of Polish parentage; came to South Africa from England in 1955. Studied architecture and Fine Arts at the University of Warsaw, Fine Arts at the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris, the Hammersmith School of Art, London, and for one year at the Michaelis School of Art, Cape Town (under Lippy Lipshitz and Maurice van Essche). Exhibited since 1958 in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Stellenbosch. Represented in the SA National Gallery, Cape Town. Was married to well-known concert pianist Virginia Fortescue, lived in Mowbray in the Cape.
